VMS content: Multiple layouts / text areas?
I'm not sure whether it is possible to represent a VMS with several possible display layouts. Some full graphic displays have a number of predefined layouts with specified text and pictogram areas, e.g. a) 1 pictogram on the left, 3 lines of text on the right; b) 3 pictograms on top, 1 line of text on the bottom. I guess you could define all possible elements and just use the ones needed for a given message?
I also didn't find position info for text elements - is it even possible to have more than one text display area on a VMS?
VMS static info: dimensions / background images?
I may have overlooked something, but I didn't see the overall width and height of the VMS (without mounting / framework) in the VmsTablePublication (VmsRecord). This would be needed to show the VMS accurately in a graphical representation.
I'm also not sure whether a static "background picture" which contains static, "painted" parts of a VMS, can be represented accurately by the Pictogram element.
French comments (GT Datex)
It is a topic created for attaching the file containing the French comments as it is not possible to directly upload them into a answer. However it aims the VMSPublication extension.
Proposed VMS model
Since 2004 Italy runs DATEX data exchange aiming at automatic VMS management between Traffic Control Centres. Autostrade per l'Italia and Padova Venezia agreed on a common interpretation of old DATEX phrases that were mapped to VMS messages and pictograms to be displayed on VMS.
This work was more and more refined in the framework of the first results of the European and National Mare Nostrum project results that was launched in those years
