Standardization

DATEX II is intended to become a multi-part Technical Specification, maintained by CEN Technical Committee 278 (Road Transport and Traffic Telematics). There are currently enquiries to confirm the first three standardization work items, dealing with the most mature and widely used parts of DATEX II: the modelling methodology (called Context and Framework) as part 1, Location Referencing as part 2 and the most widely used DATEX publication for traffic information messages (called SituationPublication) as part 3.

Subject to CEN agreement on launching the work items and assuming European consensus on their content, the first three Technical Specification (TS) documents are expected to be published before the end of 2010. More parts are to follow soon, including other data publications like measured data and elaborated data.

The version of DATEX II being handed over to standardization is DATEX II v2.0 Release Candidate 1. Registered users can download this version via the DATEX II Download >>> Current Version section of this website.

The CEN procedures foresee a draft to be circulated for comment inside the CEN Technical Committee 278. According to the joint release roadmap of the EasyWay Technical Group and CEN TC278 Working Group 8 this will happen in December 2009. The DATEX II specification on this website will be updated according to this second draft and will be published here as DATEX II v2.0 Release Candidate 2.

Subject to modification requirements from the CEN feedback process, the final version DATEX II v2.0 will then be published in mid 2010 and will in technical terms be exactly compatible with the frozen version used for preparing the TS, so that users of this version can be assured that their systems are compliant with the CEN TS requirements.
